The bridge is part of the Historic Centre of Oporto, Luiz I Bridge and Monastery of Serra do Pilar Inscribed UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Dom Luís I Bridge/Ponte de Dom Luís I/Luís I Bridge, is a 172 metres (564 ft) metal arch bridge from 1886. When built it was the longest of its type in the world. The bridge over the River Douro links Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia.
